Citizen Soldier

MAY 25, 2009
For this Memorial Day, dedicated to  Victor Tolomeo, from Plainfeld New Jersey,  one of the 16.1 million Americans who served in World War 2, he landed d-day plus one, fought without leave until hit with 16 sniper bullets in the Battle of the Bulge, left for dead in the snow for 2 days. He was found and rescued by a local farmer and spent the next three years recovering from surgeries in hospitals in Switzerland, England and San Francisco, and where he met his future wife, Irene.  He lost the use of his arm but went on to work for Beckman insturments and raise a family of nine children, including  Lynn Tolomeo, my wife.
Detail. This was done for the cover of "no Less than Victory" by Jeff Shaara.
