A New Day

JANUARY 12, 2011

One thing I want to do in the new year is push myself in some new directions and refine my work. To be honest, this is my goal every year- but  if you keep doing the same thing and expect different results....With this in mind I decided to start the new year by "flushing" my studio of every piece of existing artwork. I thought this purge might help me clear my mind and start the new years's work with a clear mind. And it seemed like a good time to take you on a tour of the studio...
I posted a drawger studio tour a few years ago but deleted it later for some reason, so forgive me if this all seems old. when you come in the door...this is the "production" side of the studio...

Sorry about the paint tubes, Tim...

the idea was that my studio was laid with each of the four sides having it's own role. This side is "reference"...the others are storage, production and the north wall-all glass- is "light". Over the years everything has overlapped a bit...

some of my "Picture of the Day" project, still has to be moved to storage...

Note shrine to my friend Kazu Sano in the corner.

Lights, stands,...swords...

My own wing of the Museum of Forgotten Art Supplies

A deconstructed and reconfigured drawing table made into a 4-way adjustable drawing board.

Ok, so I moved some of the clutter into another room....

The paintings left in the studio are the "bone pile"- they are going to be re-surfaced and re-purposed...

This is what I was dealing with- too much art. Now its all squirreled away. In a typical year I do about 50 assignments, another 50 landscapes, and a bunch of personal pieces, so soon the place will fill up again. But for now- It's a new day...now I have to get to work and mess this all up again!
