REPORTAGE - HURRICANE AFTERMATH
posted:
With no electricity, heat, or hot water in the Lower East Side during the aftermath of hurricane Sandy, I found relief as a guest member at a friend’s gym in midtown. As I sat in the steam room at a New York Sports Club location on 38th & Broadway with three other gentlemen, all of us wearing towels, I suddenly noticed one man standing unusually close to another. I glanced away, not knowing what to make of it, and stared straight ahead. After a minute I glanced over again and what I saw (with accompanying noises) caused me to exit the steam room quickly. On leaving the gym I crossed the street to a café where I made this drawing from memory.
