I was commissioned a few months ago to do the cover of a 'schools issue' for a city magazine. Got dropped at sketch stage - in favor of photography. grrrr.

I decided to finish it anyway, leaving space for masthead and type. The upside: no editor second-guessing my every move.

Non promo promo

It being a new year I felt it a good time to do a promo card. For most of my career I've tended to rely on large volume postcards, sourcebooks and recently, email. Efficient yes, but not particularly exciting. Returning to an approach I took in my early days I decided I'd do something more "high touch". If I were to make a new year's resolution it would be to do a few more of these types of promos through the year, but like most resolutions I can make no guarantee.

For this I chose a limited-edition postcard sized 'giclee' print. The edition is only 100 and will be sent to select recent clients as well as desirable ones. So in that regard it's as much a thank you card as promo card. The image is a recent personal piece. I gave the artist proofs as xmas gifts.

Using a large format 8 color inkjet I printed on sheets of heavyweight Crane textured 100% cotton paper. I cut the 36x44 inch sheets down to 18x22 in advance of printing to make the cutting more manageable. Each card will be given a wraparound with my web URL and mailed in an color envelope.

If you're an art director and would like to receive one, by all means email me and I will include you.

	✌

VJ Day, Honolulu Hawaii, August 14, 1945 from Richard Sullivan on Vimeo.

In the same spirit as my post from last year: Barcelona 1908 I share this film. A 16mm Kodachrome shot in Hawaii on VJ day. Enjoy!
