Doug Aitken

SEPTEMBER 23, 2008
Migration
I was in NY briefly over the weekend and was able to attend Doug Aitken's opening at the 303 Gallery. Years ago I taught a couple of workshops at Art Center and he was a student who then became a friend. He was an illustrator for a brief period before moving into the fine art area. Since then he has become a superstar  and has shown in all of the major museums in the world (he was the one who projected his Sleepwalkers project onto the MoMA last winter). His videos are elegant and timely.
What I think is so great is that despite his magnificent success, he has remained a really sweet humble person. It has not gone to his head.  In this current climate of bullying and rudeness thats so refreshing
The new 303 is at 547 w 21 st.
