Seriatim
Here is a present event that Gothard and I are a part of.
Queens, NY –– St. John's University presents Seriatim, an exhibition featuring the sequential work of six nationally-recognized graphic artists, January 4-February 10 at the Dr. Geoffrey Yeh Art Gallery in Sun Yat Sen Hall on the Queens campus: http://www.stjohns.edu/academics/centers/gallery.sju
With images drawn from the comics page, the print studio, and Hollywood cinema, the show exhibits a wide range of narrative sequential art. From imagery created for graphic novels to storyboards culled from today's film industry, Seriatim demonstrates the expressive possibilities of the form in the distinct styles of six top practitioners.
The participants include Brick Mason, storyboard artist for over 60 films including A Beautiful Mind and The Sixth Sense. Graphic novelist David G. Klein will show work from his work in progress The Golem's Voice, and Peter Kuper will exhibit a cross-section of his graphic works spanning multiple projects. Kuper has received a gold medal for his sequential art from the Society of Illustrators and illustrates the popular Spy vs. Spy for Mad.
From the world of comic strips comes the work of Martin Kozlowski, whose art has parodied figures great and obscure for The Earth Times and Fortune. >From the printmaking studio, thought-provoking sequential etchings by William Ronalds will also be featured. Ronalds is a retired professor from St. John's University whose prints have been exhibited internationally.
The Seriatim exhibit is also proud to include illustrator David Gothard's Skells and other sculptural works. Gothard is an award-winning illustrator featured on many of today's most influential editorial pages.
