sketchbook

SEPTEMBER 8, 2013
A few recent things from a couple of sketchbooks. This first one is an auction of some sort.

A drawing of shoes from a J Crew catalog. That's the English poet Philip Larkin modeling the handsome boot on the upper left.

Those little milk bone biscuits are a great incentive when training a puppy. The sketch on top might have been shown here before, back when it was in black and white. Anyhow, it's on the same page as this new one and I don't know how to separate them, so here it is again, only upside down and in color.

Was drawing former Secretary of State H. Clinton and also some faces and poses out of an old-timey book of screen actor photos, and decided that reptiles and amphibians might help.

Not really a sketchbook drawing, but also featuring a reptile and amphibian - this was a going away card for Mrs. Katie Izzo who worked at the Society of Illustrators and who will be missed. Here, I was trying to avoid overt sentimentality but it was difficult to resist.

Angel in the outfield. For the Mid Hudson Valley Men's Softball League newsletter.

Saw this on an Italian sitcom. It was funnier with a laugh track.

There is a good deal of white out on this - something I don't usually bother with in a sketchbook. There must have been something here I thought worth salvaging but I suspect the drawing might be fatally flawed by the awkward position of the glass and the edge of the guy's blazer. I post it here as a cautionary tale.
