Wrath (6 more in the gallery)
I've been sketching ideas for the 7 Deadly Sins for a while now, and finally got around to developing them.

Arrivederci Roma, Hello Drawgerites

Typical scene in Trastevere
I'm just getting over jet lag from our two weeks in Rome. We stayed in a great neighborhood called Trastevere, 'across the river' from all the hoopla, ie., the big tourist sights. As David Flaherty knows, Rome
is HOT in the summer. I'd seen most of the art in Rome, although I had never seen the Galleria Borghese, which was spectacular. There was a Raphael show there, as well as Bernini's marble 'Apollo and Daphne', and Caravaggio's 'David with the head of Goliath' (the one where he uses his own head for Goliath). Mainly I just loved being there. Something about the color and texture of the walls always gets under my skin. The layers of time; the graffiti; and that 'dolce
vita' thing is kind of irresistible.

It's great to see so many new Drawgerites, and to see all of the inspiring work everyone is doing. Bellissimo!

Getting in the Mood

Assisi (from sketchbook 2 in progress)
We just decided to finally take that family trip to Italy. My wife and I have both spent a lot of time there. I lived with a family in Assisi for 2 weeks
in 1977, so memories of Giotto's frescoes are returning, as fresh as wet plaster.
We'll be staying in Rome for two weeks this summer.

Looking For a Home

Ooma is snatched by Waldo
Not the dog...but the children's book proposal. It's called The Runaway Sock. A sock named Ooma escapes and has various and sundry adventures, trials and encounters, on her way to 'The Sock Hop', a dance party at the Laundromat where all the runaway socks go to celebrate their freedom. It's meant as an answer to the age old conundrum of the missing sock. So far I've got no takers, so I've put it on the back burner, but I'm gearing up to retool it and send it out to some fresh
viewers.

This One is in Limbo too

Felix and Me cover
This was my first attempt at a kid's book. It's called Felix and Me, and it's the story of a kid's friendship with a Jazz-playing ghost who lives in his attic. It has a retro feel; it's meant to evoke the era of the big bands. This one got some good responses from publishers, but also remains homeless. I think I've got another story in me, but I hope to one day see these two vagabonds taken in.
