for The Atlantic Monthly

OCTOBER 27, 2009
This is an illustration for a book review by Christopher Hitchens in The Atlantic Monthly.  The book is about Arthur Koestler, a writer, according to Hitchens, that was "enthused by practically any intellectual or political or mental scheme that came his way".  Koestler took part in the bloody antifascist struggles of the Communists in the 1940s, went to Palestine when Israel was founded and later came to write about his belief in UFOs.  Part of the idea was to integrate the writer with some of the disparate propaganda imagery of the times.
