Me and the Copacabana Girls

Well, I know they're not Johnny Cash, or Nora Ephron, or Chris Rock, but they're not so bad are they?
Everyone's posting about where their work has taken them, so I thought I'd throw this one into the mix.

Back in 2005 myself and three other artists did Illustrations for a book of stamps on Latin Dance for the Postal Service.  To unveil it, your U.S. Postal Service threw a really big party at the Copacabana in New York.  They had Willie Colon play all night, there was a lot of dancing, and the Copa Girls really got the crowd going.  They dressed in colors matching the dancers in the stamps and did performances of the dances that were illustrated.  The Mambo, Cha-Cha-Cha, Salsa, and Merengue.  They then proceeded to dance with me!  Especially the one on the right up there in the green dress, I don't know, what can I say, it's good to be an illustrator.

I have no idea how my wife lets me get away with this stuff.  I love her.
This girl from American Idol sang the National Anthem that night.  I don't really watch that show, they called her "The Vonze".  Heck, I danced some Salsa with her too.  She laughed a lot because this whole Salsa thing was not her thing at all
Look at the stamps, they're on the right.
That's my stamp, the blue one, on the left. On the left!
She was a very good dancer

Great dancers
Oh, and here's my stamp.  Working on a stamp project is very complex, a lot of revisions, comittees, and so on.  The art director was a pleasure to work with and it was a lot of fun throughout.  Part of the challenge with a stamp is creating something that works visually when it gets reduced to 1" wide.  I tried to keep the image graphic and bold.

All in all, not bad for government work, isn't that the saying?
