This is a set of three spread illustrations that were commissioned recently by Fortune Magazine for a cover story about the 2012 election. The first spread/story is an intro piece and was to deal with the infighting and gridlock that has been going on in Washington for the past several years. The following two spreads were to be portraits of Obama and Romney that went along with features and interviews with the candidates. Here, they were to discuss ways that they would fix the economy over the next four years. I thought of the idea above for the opener and then worked the arrows into the portrait images to carry some of the visual themes throughout the set of illustrations.
