I've drawn Michael Jackson and his various faces many times over the years, including for SPY magazine, Howard Stern's book "Miss America", and for a cover of MAD (with his arm draped around a terrified Alfred E. Neuman). But I think this portrait, done to illustrate an article in the NY Observer by journalist Stanley Crouch, on why he wasn't buying Michael's version of things, sums him up best for me. The sad, pathetic, misunderstood "victim" of the media, with the the large, heartbreaking WALTER KEANE (actually, Margaret Keane) eyes.
