In honor of Bernie Madoff's sentencing I thought I would post these pieces, inspired by Warren Buffet who said," you don't know who is swimming naked until the tide goes out" These two new pieces are shown side by side and may have a third if it works out. They are for my upcoming show at Billy Shire Fine Arts in L.A. where I am exploring mythic images that call or grow out of struggles and dilemmas of modern life. Not everything is as somber as these two pieces, but I am sure all of you realize how healing it is to make a personal statement in order to digest what transpires in our culture. We, as artists fullfill the role of the myth maker in our time and how we respond helps others understand and share the compassion for circumstance. Aside from Joseph Campbell I have really been inspired by Lewis Hyde (Milton Glaser recommended him to me) who wrote the book "The Gift" and I highly recommend it to anyone in the arts. http://www.lewishyde.com/
I will be showing with two other artists, Don Fritz Jenn Porreca. This is the first time I will be showing a big body of work out west and hope to see lots of pals out there. The show opens August 8th, so if you are in the area it would be great to see you.
