Baltimore and 100 Heads for Haiti Show

Spur Gallery/waiting in line for the opening of 100 Haiti Heads/Ellen and Flaherty almost first in line.
The 100 Heads for Haiti show was incredible. There was a line waiting at the door before it opened and a real mad rush to get the pieces. It was so cool to see the desire from ADs, illustrators, students and just regular people to own a piece of our art. Ellen knocked everyone down and made it to the table first. I think Flaherty even got trampled in the process. Almost all were sold by the time we left. I'm proud to say that we now own a Burckhardt, a Taxali, a Clayton and a Travis Lampe. Never been to Baltimore but I was so impressed with the town. Plunkert and company are living the giant art studio dream out there. It was great meeting the Spur Design crew - David, Joyce, Alex, Jess, Al and his wife. Thank you so much for setting up a successful show and designing the beautiful poster. I'm so glad that I went.

Cry for Help/12"x9"/oil
I'm very proud to be part of a great charity event to benefit Haiti called "100 Heads for Haiti" created and curated by David Plunkert and Joyce Hesselberth of Spur Design in Baltimore this weekend. Here is my oil painting for the event.
SooJin and I are driving down for the opening. I've never been to Baltimore and I really want to grab a few of the other beautiful pieces that I've seen so far. I'm picturing a mad rush at the door. "Flaherty get out of my way!"

Big Mother/Boston Magazine/May 9, 2006
I find my images used on the web, without my permission, all the time. But this time it really pissed me off. A CBS journalist used one of my old illustrations, originally for Boston Magazine called "Big Mother", to illustrate his rant on health care without my permission. He has since taken it down but his reply made me nuts. His opinion seems to be a growing opinion when it comes to using images on the web. Scary! Especially, with the death of print, and a majority of our images will be for online-usage only. If you get a chance, read his replies in the thread - Big Mother
Also here is one of his recent email replies.

Chris,

I get paid for what I write, not for the illustrations accompanying them. If I had to get permission for every illustration I used I wouldn't have time to get any illustrations on my articles and would likely not make any money.

So I developed this policy, which usually works. I seek to give credit. When I can find one, I even seek a place where the illustration's being sold, and link to that.

I used to just link to the illustrations, but I was accused then of stealing bandwidth.

No one is going to take a 200 pixel reproduction of a larger piece and call it art. No one is using it as anything but eye candy, and those who like it are going to use links to seek it, and the artist, out.

I don't know how to get this through to you. I didn't steal from you. I didn't rob you. I sought to publicize you. And was called a thief for my troubles.

Now I'd like to get to work helping you, thanks...........
